HYAA Baseball Program Overview

HYAA's Mission is to provide athletic experiences that will help our young people grow into healthier and happier adults.

HYAA Baseball is recreational and instructional in general nature but allows kids to advance their skill level and compete against similar talent over time. Our program is designed for a broad spectrum of abilities; from novice to gifted. Unlike many organizations that limit or discourage novice or developing players, our organization welcomes everyone.

Our seasons are generally 12 weeks long (approx 10 games, weather permitting) and are scheduled with every attempt to have kids outside playing ball and enjoying our traditionally mild climate as soon and as often as possible.  Registration begins in January, so please check our website to make sure you register early enough to be placed on a team.

As we strive to offer more options for our members and keep up with market demand, our program has three components:

  1. EVERYONE is welcome – Our programs are open to all youth of Huntersville and surrounding areas. Registration fees will be reduced for those with financial challenges. We want everyone to play!
  2. Traditional recreational baseball – The foundation of our program offers children of all ages and skill levels the ability to play baseball in a fun, competitively balanced, professionally run program.
  3. HYAA charters with two premiere baseball organizations that allows us to play interleague with neighboring cities, join regional tournaments, and play in an All-Stars trail.

Charter for Minors and Majors: Cal Ripken Baseball

Charter for 13-16 year old teams: Babe Ruth Baseball

PRACTICE AND GAMES
Practices are usually once a week and begin in March.  Games are usually one to two times per week, one weekday and Saturday. Games will begin in April and end the first week of June. The schedule can change when weather causes cancelled games.

AGE DIVISIONS
HYAA Baseball is organized by age groups. The Divisions are as follows:

T-ball - Co-Ed ages 4 1/2&5
Coach Pitch - Co-Ed ages 6&7
Rookies (Kid Pitch) - Boys ages 8&9, ideal for beginning 9 year olds

Minor (Kid Pitch) - Boys ages 9&10, ideal for experienced 9 year olds
Major - Boys ages 11&12

Babe Ruth - Boys ages 13-16

TEAM FORMATION
HYAA uses a player evaluation process (skills day and prior season coach's evaluation) and then a draft to create teams. HYAA's goal is to create a system of team parity, where teams are generally balanced. Parity creates exciting baseball and enhances the enjoyment of the players and spectators. We will do our best to honor player requests so kids can play with their friends, neighbors, or previous teammates, but we cannot guarantee every request.

FACILITIES
HYAA owns no baseball facilities. In all cases, HYAA rents fields from the Town of Huntersville, Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and other private facilities. The charges associated with facilities are a sizable portion of the participant registration fee. Huntersville and North Mecklenburg has experienced a tremendous growth in population that far exceeds the growth of baseball fields in the area. For these reasons, we appreciate your support and understanding at the limitations of baseball facilities.

UNIFORMS
HYAA provides uniforms for the players including hat, jersey, pants, and socks. Belts are provided for all levels except T-ball. Our uniforms are widely regarded as the best around and always have the added touch of "names on the back."

EQUIPMENT
HYAA provides basic baseball equipment such as catcher’s gear, baseballs, and hitting tees. The cost of these items is provided by a portion of the registration fees. Participants should provide a glove, bat, helmet and athletic shoes (soft cleats).
