Welcome to HYAA Basketball!
The Huntersville Youth Athletic Association (HYAA) is the area's oldest and largest youth basketball program, and a proud JR NBA affiliate*. We are committed to providing a fun, competitive, and developmental basketball experience that encourages growth as better athletes and better human beings. Whether you're new to the sport or a highly gifted player, our program is designed to meet you where you are and foster growth, teamwork, and a lifelong love for basketball.
At HYAA, we believe everyone is welcome. Unlike many organizations, we don't limit or discourage participation from novice players—we welcome and help them become great players. Financial assistance for registration fees is available upon documented financial need.
Winter Divisions & Age Groups
HYAA Basketball is structured to provide the best possible experience for every athlete. Here’s a breakdown of our divisions for the upcoming Winter season, which will include both boys' and girls' leagues (except for our co-ed Rookie division).
Rookies (Ages 5U)
🏀 Our introductory co-ed division for brand new players!
🏀 Focused on sparking a love for the game through fun, basic drills, and teamwork.
🏀 A positive and engaging first experience with organized basketball.
Jumpstart (Ages 6-7)
🏀 Introduction to basketball – fundamental skill-building & basic gameplay
🏀 Focused on fun, development, and teamwork
🏀 Co-ed opportunities based on registration numbers
Foundation (Ages 8-9)
🏀 Expanding skills – dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense
🏀 Balanced gameplay structure for learning & competition
🏀 Targeted team-based drills & strategy development
Gateway (Ages 10-11)
🏀 Largest division in HYAA Basketball
🏀 Competitive matchups with structured game scheduling
🏀 Skill development emphasizing game IQ and execution
Note: Our strategic new Gateway+ Division will be introduced for this age group this winter to provide a separate competitive track for players looking for travel-style experience.
Strategy (Ages 12-13)

Legacy (High School Division)
🏀 Fast-paced, competitive high school-level basketball

- Facilities: HYAA rents facilities from the Town of Huntersville, Charlotte Mecklenburg School System, and other private entities.
